The Tweaks You Need to Make to the Default F4 Setup in iRacing
Get more grip, better rotation, and improved consistency with these simple changes
The FIA Formula 4 car in iRacing is growing in popularity, and for good reason. But the default setup? It’s stable — not fast.
Here’s what to change for more performance:
Start with the Baseline
Baseline is neutral but conservative. Goals:
- More rotation on entry
- Less understeer mid-corner
- Better traction out of corners
1. Tyre Pressures
- Default: Too high
- Target: ~20.5–21.5 psi hot
- Improves grip, especially over race distance.
2. Brake Bias
- Default: ~59.5%
- Try: 58.0%–58.5% front
- Helps with trail braking and rotation. Don’t go too far or you’ll lock the rears.
3. Anti-Roll Bars (ARBs)
- Front: Soften slightly → better turn-in
- Rear: Stiffen slightly → less roll, better traction
4. Dampers
- Softer front bump: Better kerb compliance
- Stiffer rear rebound: More throttle stability
5. Gearing
- Adjust final drive for each track:
- Short tracks: Shorter ratio = better acceleration
- Fast tracks: Longer ratio = avoid limiter in 6th
